I saw a link to here at eq2flames and thought I'd come visit. Christian sites like this are great for the open discussion and dialogue, but many that I've visited just don't last that long because invariably the flamers overwhelm the mods and the site loses it effectiveness. It think this one has a chance simply because the man running it WAS a flamer himself and can relate to that culture/mindset better than most.
Eric, I sincerely commend you for taking a skill set you developed outside the Christian sphere and "redeeming" for use in serving. I plan to bookmark this site and try to become involved.... I tend to be a lurker on most boards (I don't think I ever even registered on EQ2flames) but I'll make a concerted effort to help support your work here. A little about myself. I never had a radical conversion experience - I was raised in a Christian home in Western Michigan with wonderful parents and brothers I love. I attended college at the usual time, but encounters with an atheist professor convicted me of a need to get some better training in what I believe before I went any further. I enrolled in a local Bible College for "just a semester" to take some philosophy and Church History. Four years later I graduated with a Theology degree. ![]() After a variety of jobs: publishing, retail, security guard, banking, IT, and even a missionary for a year, I've found myself back at the same college I graduated from, this time on the IT staff (well, basically I AM the IT Staff). At this point, I'm feeling the nudge to move on to Pastoral Ministry, which I was trained for 20+ years ago. I've put it off for a long time due to uncertainty and no small amount of self-doubt, but God may be finally breaking through my boneheadedness. I have a wonderful wife and two beautiful 10-year old girls, all of whom know the Lord. We attend Grace Bible Fellowship, an evangelical protestant church in Jenison, MI, a suburb of Grand Rapids. Again, I hope to see you in the forums. Take care all. Jim |
