1. Profanity: The profanity filter is enabled on this site. We believe that all people can communicate most effectively without using the "F" word and similar terms. Please do not attempt to subvert the profanity filter with creative spelling.
Why can't we say what we feel? This is an honest question actually, I am of the mindset that no word should be censored because the vast majority of people gave it that meaning. Just look at the word gay, and you'll know exactly what I mean. Obviously every second or third word shouldn't be profanity, but the occasional curse word won't hurt anyone imo. And if you honestly get offended by words over a forum on the internet, well I feel sorry for your self esteem. So ya I'm confused as to why we have imo such a redundant rule. ![]()

Well it will depend on how the Curs filter is working, a lot of Words is considered Cursing because of negative the word has brought, but over all not really that bad, and a lot of today's Cursing words is not against God as some are and Originally it was a sin to Curs you god and it has just evol from there.
Well I can mange to not use does words, but it a lot depends on Eric filters, and I to lazy to test it out Last edited by solimor; 09-27-2008 at 10:11 AM. |

If you've ever heard the George Carlin piece about the seven words you can't say on television, well, I've blocked those words plus racist terms. I didn't even allow racist terms on my other site.
Before I was saved in June this year, I used the F word in most sentences, whether written or spoken. Profanity was so ingrained into my subconscious mind and speech as a matter of habit I would have never believed I could stop speaking like that. When I was saved, I lost the desire to use profanity like I use table salt on food. I asked God to change my subconscious mind so I would stop speaking that way as a matter of habit, and He has done so. I hear what you're saying. But profanity is deeply offensive to most Christians. Have you ever heard anyone use the F word in church, or say GD it? The bottom line is, we would not be able to attract a Christian audience to this site if we allowed profanity, and I think we are better off if we get out of the habit of using those words anyway. I know I am, and feel like I'm a much better communicator now without them. Thank you

Also resorting to excessive profanity only shows a lack of reasoning skills, not intelligence per se. This so called "intelligence" only elongates sentences and further distracts people from the true point of things. Politicians use this tactic a lot, they will substitute certain words for more "intelligent" ones to distract you from thier true intentions and/or meanings. Quote:
Again, profanity has no bearing on intelligence and/or communication skills ( unless you curse every second word ), and that is very poor logic your following. The main reason you communicate better is because you feel better about yourself and thus give out positive energy around you, not because you chose to eliminate certain words from your vocabulary. They are not one in the same. I could easily use profanity everyday and still communicate just as well, if not better, then not using profanity. Too many people associate profanity with lack of intelligence, yet some of the most intelligent people in the world prolly use or have used profanity in their lifetime. What if you heard the pope say the F word? Would that suddenly crumble your whole idea of religion? Of course not! It's just a word! Words have no meaning except those you give them. It's not the fact that you find curse words offensive, it's the fact that your already judging words and therefore judging people who use those words. Since I know your mind is made up on this matter already, can you at least change the way the rule is worded? I don't want to nit pick, it's just the way it's worded now it's basically saying your dumb and cannot communicate well unless you quit using profanity. That is the problem I find most "people of faith" have. That they unconsciously develope this "I'm right because God told me so" attitude, and thus are becoming the one thing they wish to oppose : Being closed minded. Sorry if this sounds offensive, it's just that faith, while still an awesome concept, has more or less lost it's meaning on todays society, and too many people fall into that trap. Faith is always good to have, just be careful having so much faith that you stop hearing and seeing what's happening around you, because when that happens you will be deaf to truth, and blind to reality. Edit : Also I would like to add that I said all of this because honestly I want this forum to succeed in the right way, a place that is open and accepting of everyone, and a place to talk about a concept that has been lost, but can still be found.

Or that if you use profanity, even a little bit, then you are somehow not Christian? I didn't think so sir.

Hey bud, if you want to use profanity when you type sometimes, you can do that here, it's just that those words will be **** out. People will probably still be able to get your meaning.
I admit the real reason I've enabled the profanity filter, regardless of the fact that I personally oppose use of those words now, is that this is a Christian site, and use of those words here would chase away a significant part of our intended audience.
