For those of you interested in Heavy Metal, MetalCore, and other bands along those lines, but in a Christian venue...you may want to check out Norma Jean, As I Lay Dying, and Demon Hunter. My personal favorite is Demon Hunter. Their lyrics are very encouraging, and the music sounds (in my opinion) great.

I think there was a band WAY back in the day, (could be way off base so correct me if I'm wrong cause I could be thinking of a completely different band) but they completely rocked out, and if I'm wrong, I'll find out who it was, but they could totally stand up to any of the heavy rock bands out now but I'm thinking it was Petra, but again, I could be wrong on the name, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Petra and Stryper were awesome bands in the 80's and 90's. Now I tend to listen to Mortification (REALLLY heavy, but seriously rock), War of Ages, Demon Hunter. I can't think of any others at this time, but when I do I'll come back and list them

Creed and Evanescence were semi-christian in their lyrics... Well on some songs anyway.

I love secular metal though. Most christian rock or christian metal bands I have heard were simply awful.

I randomly overheard some Evanescence a while back and totally thought the lyrics sounded like prayer. After pointing this out to the listeners I was riddiculed and forgot to go googling later... I SO KNEW IT! I also had a hunch about Collective Soul?
